Monty Bynum served in investigative law enforcement for over 32 years, including over 20 years in deep undercover, intelligence, and security operations as a narcotics officer, USMC Commanding Officer, DEA, and GBI Special Agent conducting operations in 12 countries from the U.S. to Eastern and Central Europe as well as theaters throughout the Middle East.  Now, in his retirement, he is using his extensive leadership and financial experience to equip First Responders with the strategies, beliefs, and support systems needed by them to breakthrough stereotypes and limitations, tap into their inherent expertise and skills, all to become financially strong servant leaders.

As a child, he felt a calling to serve and protect, leading him to join the police academy at age 20 while playing football in college.  He served as a LEO until feeling that same calling drawing him next to join the U.S. Marines as an Officer, completing the infamous Crucible at age 29.  Timing meant his USMC career began just days before the attacks on “911,”  thrusting his command immediately into action to lead USCENTCOM’s transition from peace-time to active engagement and the crafting and exploiting of logistics and covert intelligence to find and eliminate terrorist threats overseas.

Following his service overseas, Monty went on to become an international leading expert in money laundering, large-scale international narcotics investigations, an expert in Title3 (Wire-Tap) investigations, and RICO.  Investigations under his leadership lead to the dismantling of large-scale multi-country narco-terrorist criminal operations, seizure of millions of dollars in narcotics and illicit criminal proceeds, the divestiture of large-scale money laundering rings, and capture of money laundering and trafficking principals.  

Woven parallel to a career centrally focused on eliminating terrorist threats and the dismantling of complex criminal organizations is the story of Monty’s quiet and passionate pursuit of higher education, financial wisdom, and entrepreneurial success. Starting his first business at just 21 years of age, Monty went on to found multiple enterprises and grow both active and passive income investments while serving.  He has extensive experience and expertise in start-ups, capital raising, real estate investing, business consulting, and business acquisition.

An extensive military intelligence experience, untouchable stats in drug enforcement wire-tap investigations, combined with Monty’s deep interest in financial systems and business knowledge lead to his recruitment by the GBI.  It’s there that he fundamentally changed the state and federal approach to investigating criminal acts with the incorporation of money laundering investigative strategies. Monty and his team went on to pioneer bringing high-level money laundering training to investigators nationally and internationally, including embassies and agencies in over 5 countries. 

Monty will tell you vehemently that First Responders are a different breed. They are servant leaders who take risks, make decisions quickly, and put others before themselves often all without the level of support they need from the public or even their agencies. 

One thing Monty has found to be missing from the lives of too many of his First Responder colleagues throughout his career is certainty in their financial future. Too many struggle with insecurity in their job, financial pressures, and pay that's not enough to manage life let alone a crisis. That financial stress compounds the stressors that already come with the job. Instead of addressing the problem, too many leaders offer a message to First Responders of survival, of enduring their situation, of wellness neutrality, or even settling for the trauma and stress of public service they "signed up for." Monty believes it’s time NOW to equip First Responders INSTEAD with what they need to live instead with financial STRENGTH, with what they need to THRIVE versus merely survive, and a community that supports their LIVING everyday as the elite leaders we need them to be for our safety and security.
